Who We Help
Who We Help:
The Hungry
Well over 1,000,000,000 people will go to bed hungry tonight.
According to World Health Organization estimates, 1/3 of the world is well fed, 1/3 is under-fed, and 1/3 is starving.
1 man, woman, or child dies every 2.9 seconds from hunger-related causes.
Over 25,000 people will die today from hunger.
The Malnourished
More than half of all children's deaths worldwide are caused by malnutrition.
More than 160 million of the world's malnourished are children under the age of 5.
The risk of death for children with even mild malnutrition is 2.5 times greater than for children receiving adequate nutrition.
The Poor
Worldwide, more than 1.2 billion people currently live on less than $1.00 per day.
Half of the world lives on less than $2.00 per day.
Every other child in the world is living in poverty.
Out of the 1.9 billion children in the world, there are 640 million without adequate shelter.
The Survivors
Breedlove send almost 14 million servings of nutritious food to Indonesia as relief for the survivors of the 2004 tsunami.
The same amount was sent to the Gulf Coast after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the area.
We have sent well over 10 million servings as earthquake relief to the people of Haiti.
The Sick
Poor nutrition makes a person much more likely to contract disease and/or suffer from illness. It also reduces the effectiveness of medication.
When a member of an impoverished family is sick they lose not only the income and food production of the sick member, but also the contribution of family members who care for them.
