Assassination of Christian Federal Minister of Minorities affair, Martyr Shahbaz Bhatti
As you all know we have had a team serving food to persecuted Christians and people displaced due to the flooding. We recently received the following update from that team exemplifying how dangerous it is to be a Christian believer serving other Christians in Paksistan.
Federal minister of minorities’ affair Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti was assassinated by some extremist.
Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti was a bold, brave and fearless Christian Politician who was fighting for the cause of Christian rights in Pakistan. He was the only Christian voice on Government level that According an eye witnesses was going for the cabinet meeting called by the Prime Minister. He set out from her mother’s home after enquiring of her health. While he was on the way, a white car Mehran appeared and intercepted his way and three had his say. Shooters came out of the car and started shooting at Federal Minister Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti who was sitting in the back he was hit of about 25 bullets and gave his life at the spot but the driver was spared alive fortunately. Killers threw some pamphlets there after killing that carries the message from the killer, “Every Blasphemer Deserves Such Death”
Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti was martyred because he raised voice against the blasphemy Law on every forum. Mr. Bhatti was committed to keep on fighting for the right of minorities. According to IG police Islam Abad; Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti was provided secureity but this time security escort was not with him; he said, 'Investigation is going on."
Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti pledged to continue for the amendments in the blasphemy law that is being used to settle personal issues and many are being targeted because of this law. Governor Punjab Suleman Taseer was assassinated just because of Asia Bibi's Case who was sentenced to death by the court because of blasphemy law and Mr. Shahbaz was handing it after him.
The Taliban claimed resposibility for the killing "Assassination of Bhatti is a message to all of those who are against Pakistan's blasphemy laws," said Ihsanullah Ihsan, a Taliban spokesman.
