General Overview of Breedlove Foods Inc.

Due to surplus and many other factors, between 45%-50% of all produce harvested in America is never eaten. So our concept is simple; there are hungry people and we have extra food, so lets feed them.

Production of dehydrated potatoes: Originally, we used only donated “grade B” potatoes, which are those not pretty enough to be sold in stores. Over time, Breedlove effectively created a market for the surplus produce, which lessened the availability as a donated commodity.  These days, we seek out the best price for “grade B” potatoes just like anyone else would.  Once received, we dice the potatoes, and dehydrate them down from approximately 80% to 7% water becoming an ingredient for our final products.

Packaging dehydrated products: Currently we have 25 completely different products using dehydrated potatoes, lentils or rice as the main ingredient. By using all dehydrated ingredients our final products gain up to a 10-year shelf life and we increase our shipping capacity 370%.

Distribution thru Partnerships: The final operation of our food is distribution to the underprivileged people of the world. We rely entirely on partner organizations for that process, so we only work with the most trusted, reliable organizations. We are excellent at developing and manufacturing food for a specific purpose, but we are not well positioned to distribute our food to the people who really need it. So we equip the people who are better positioned, our distributing partners, to do it for us. We take pride in knowing what happens to our food after we deliver it into a country; it enters the mouths of the hungry.

Other Departments that make it Happen:

Like the intricate gears, cogs and wheels of a machine all working together with a single purpose, Breedlove’s team members are doing their part so that our products get into the hands of those who need it most. These additional departments are:

Business Development and Communications: Finding additional distribution partners is crucial for the long-term success of Breedlove Foods, so we have our most seasoned veteran, David Fish, building relationships with potentially new partners as well as directing public communications.

Quality Assurance/Lab: Our quality assurance, or lab, conducts routine tests and procedures to ensure the quality and safety of our product every day. They are also responsible for the development and formulation of new and innovative products. Through the dedication of our lab staff, we follow through on our claim to be innovative in hunger relief.

Warehouse/Shipping: Providing a safe, dry, well-maintained storage environment for the product until it leaves the grounds is of absolute importance. Our staff is trained to store and ship our products according to strict OSHA regulations, which means you can count on our product to be safe for consumption and safely transported to its destination.

Marketing and Development: Working to create public awareness about world hunger is an important part of Breedlove’s purpose, but if it stops there then the problem hasn’t been properly addressed. Facilitating the movement from awareness to action is a critical part of what we do. We do this by providing people information about who we are, what we do, and ways to get involved, which primarily are individual donations, corporate sponsorships, or foundational grants – all of which are tax deductible.

Accounting/Finance: Every dollar that finds its way into Breedlove is well cared for with the greatest respect for what it cost the giver. You can rest assured that our finances are handled with integrity in order to ensure it is used in the way it was intended. We are audited annually, and strive for excellence in the use of our resources.

Maintenance: The machinery used for our operations is uniquely designed to fit our specific needs. Our team of specialists works hard to prevent and repair glitches within the machinery to ensure the optimal flow of operations is not interrupted, as well as general maintenance of the facilities.

Latin American Operations: Matching the growing needs of Breedlove Food in Latin America we have a specialized team dedicated to supporting Latin American Partners in anyway appropriate.

Government Programs: Matching the large amount of government work done through USAID we have developed a department specifically for Government Programs.

Information Technology (IT): In today’s world of technology, where would we be without the ability to work and communicate effectively and efficiently? Our IT guru has the skill and expertise and the passion for the mission to keep things running at optimal level. This is a unique challenge for a nonprofit organization. Not only do we need technology that is well maintained and current, but it also has to be done as cost-efficiently as possible. This oft-unsung hero truly is a hero.
